Offering

Our church service during the spiritual retreat included taking an offering. However, unlike a typical offering, money was not allowed as an acceptable offering. The Youth were challenged to offer God something more costly than money.

You can always make more money, but the life you’ll lead this week is unique and you’ll never have another like it. What are you willing to offer God this week?

They wrote their responses down and placed them into the offering:

I will only listen to things that please You on Monday, and will look for You in the things I love.

I am going to pray two times per day.

What does God want from me that I haven’t been willing to give Him?  I will ask that question daily this week.  I will also devote 20 whole uninterrupted minutes with His Word, and be still for a change, to listen intently.

Hard work.

I will give up more of my time to You, I will like more of the things You want me to. I will try my best to do this.

Time.

On Monday, I will pray to You.  On Tuesday I will thank You for everything You do.  On Thursday I will ask for more help from You. On Friday, I will ask for forgiveness from the sins I did this week.

I am going to pray to You two times every day this week.

I am going to give You a ½ hour of undivided attention every day this week.  Whether it be in Your Word or prayer.

I will give You two homerooms this week.

I will comfort a wife who lost her husband last week.

I am going to give You my time, to listen to what I need help with.

If you weren’t allowed to offer money next time the offering plate comes around, what would you offer God?
